I'm looking at getting something quick to sail and living in North london...

What is the best club for me to join?

I need a big expanse of water and as short a travelling time as possible from Camden/Islington.

Is it stomaching an hours drive to Queen mary or is there a better option out there?

Have you considered the Isle Of Sheppey in Kent?

www.iossc.org.uk

It's just 30 minutes from the Dartford crossing. Huge expanse of sheltered water at all tides, ideal for all performance boats with fast easy road access from London.

£300m has been invested in improving the road access from the M25 to the port of Sheerness including: the widening of the M2, the dualling of the A249 and the new £100m dual carriageway bridge which opens this Summer.

It may be a slightly longer drive than you want, but it's worth it for the quality of the water. If you need any more info, please let me know.

Datchet's going to be closer and a nicer place. Dunno how much closer though.

ok, according to Multimap, travel times from my potential place of employment (not sure where I'll live yet)...

QM - 00:50

Datchet - 00:52

Grafham - 01:18

Isle of Sheppey - 1:34

So queen mary or Datchet look like they'll be best...

Those times look fair, although I can do from my sister's house in Mill Hill, NW London to the island in 1:20 and that's before the new bridge has opened.

According to the AA site (which over estimates the times), Grafham takes longer to get to from Camden/Islington than Sheppey (64 miles vs 53).

Good luck choosing.

Yeah King George is open again now. Not sure of the size of it but I know a lot of sailors from King George moved to our club when it shut - Fishers Green which is in Hertfordshire. Near M25 A10 Junction.
