Had a training day for Mark laying and 8mm 3 strand was recommended as the best rope for the job.
so please ignore my previous comment. Martin Clark who was running the course does Mark laying all over the southcoast in lots of depth so he knows his job.

We use 8mm 3strand. Easy to splice eyes in each end for attachment to the chain shackles & mark attachment. I found the cheapest ebay chandlers & bought a few metres from them. In hindsight it might be worth buying a 50 m reel of the stuff so we have some spare when the inevitable losses occur!

Something lighter than 14mm! But if the tidal currents are strong it might be worth thinking of a few metres of chain by the anchor to reduce dragging.

Normally what ever I can find suitable from about 8mm up in the chandlers off cuts bin.
don't try to use the stuff fisherman use on trawls (we had one come a shore in a right tangle and i took it home and sorted it) because it floats.

I'm in the process of ordering some new warps for our club buoys (6ft cylinders) and unsure which type to get? (Tidal, beach, mostly sand on the seabed, little rocks, Approx. depth maximum 15m)

In the boat shed currently we have some 14mm~ braided polyester. It's heavy absorbs water but is nice on the hands and won't break as its rated to 3700kg

To me the draw backs from the Polyester is the weight per warp is massive (30m length) and lugging it around outside the boat is back breaking. Also the cost is high compared to other alternatives.

What is everyone else using?
