Saving from what ? ILCA seem to be ok and Lasers are still largest selling class.
This sail certainly goes better than the ones shown in topic from a couple of months ago.

Looks like the logical step provided it doesn't kill club racing as people with the old rigs give up on the class rather than spending more than the boat is worth on new rags and mast.

I guess for 20 years we will see "classic" Laser racing carry on at small puddles in the Cotswolds/Midlands/wherever whilst the circuit swaps over. Can see issues at clubs where some swap and others don't.

Rather than spending time and money developing an existing mature class, surely their time and money would be  better spent on a new class ?

Much easier to make money by developing an existing class. Designing the boat is the easy bit.

And given the Laser, for all it's faults, seems to be a pretty good hull design I'd say this is a sensible move. But I see a progression to Epoxy/FRP/Carbon construction and a weight of 40kg or so which would result in an entirely different boat, so lets "do a Supernova' and give it a new deck moulding with a self draining cockpit, more freedom WRT fittings and turn the Laser into a boat even I (with my short legs and dodgy back) might consider sailing  Big smile

Where was the kicking strap?
It looks great, but if it is sold by Laser, then it will be overpriced for what it is.

It's a gnav. Looks like mast end slides up and down the mast and the boom end is fixed. Pause at 0.08 to get a good view (red rope).
