I've got some aged gelcoat materials - does the gelcoat itself and/or the catalyst have a shelf-life?

As I understand it, the cat has a limited life. I've heard a month but that seems extreme. I don't think the gel coat itself degrades in the tin, and I have used materials that are at least three years old to repair minor chips etc.
If you're concerned, I would knock up a small quantity and either leave it in the mixing container or apply it to a gash flat surface and see if it goes off in a reasonable time.
