Had a pleasent weekend sailing my Solo at WPNSA, I am now musing if anyone on the forum has a practical way of scribling notes such as compass bearings on deck in a singlehander.  I use a fine point magic marker (Stanley) and write on some wide sticky tape on deck.  It is a bit of a faf finding it in my lifejacket pocket, then pulling the lid off, writing on the deck (which may be wet) while maintaing a heading!

I find that Chinagraph pencil tips break too often to be of use.

Has anyone found a clever solution?

Waterproof paper; stick a sheet to the deck with tape. Can then use any old pencil.

If you have wooden decks, remove after use or over time it will leave a pale patch

You could also try gluing a marker pen top to a bulkhead so you can just pull the pen off the top, write and replace.

Or, as I've seen in a RIB, glue Velcro to the boat and to a pencil.

Mrs Fleaberto and I have used those plastic divers boards in the past. A pencil attached by a rubber tube and the boards attached somewhere useful by Velcro.

Masking tape and permanent marker, only issue is if you leave it on, it sets like concrete.

Laminate a blank sheet of paperand tape it on. If its somewhere you're not going to rub against it use a whiteboard pen, otherwise a China graph on a bit of string. Just make sure the China graph isn't damp for the week between races.
