I'm kinda mulling over the possibility of building a new boat. Thinking about internal layout for the chronologically challenged singlehander...

- foredeck/crewdeck comes to well behind daggerboard case. The last part acts like a thwart, but goes gunwhale to gunwhale merging with side deck so helm can sit in the middle in light airs with feet in well and slide out as required

- folding mini winglets for decent righting moment upwind. They pivot for storage and not to stick in water (from European Canoe Classes)

- all tanks above false floor probably vented to fill slowly/drain moderately quickly. (water ballast on lee side when righting as well as float low in sustained capsize).

- Thinking about a Moth sized rig on a slim 15ft hull to achieve similar static stability to Aero.

There has to be a better way of getting righting moment Jim. That solution just looks too Heath Robinson.

Surely you want a longer, narrower hull with form stability but minimal drag, with a relatively small but efficient rig? Sort of a single-handed version of the American Suicide class?

I really like the canoe wings, saw one of them ages ago and thought it a good idea. I seriously thought about fitting some to my Finn.

Really length depends on the build space. For a standard 17ft garage 15ft sounds good.

So did the Finn class secretary, 50 years ago. It would have been interesting to see if others had followed his lead.

Thoughtful tank design  Thumbs Up
Liking a lot, length brings the characteristics I like. I guess with your background you are all over dealing with the problems of to much wetted area in light weather.
Just curious, do you have a type of waters in mind, inland, sea, tidal estuary, short waves, long waves?

I haven't thought too much about underwater shape yet.
But I've been very pleased with my reworked early 1970s International Moth, which seems to have been transformed in light air without too much of a penalty in breeze.
With the Moth it had had a new underwater shape at some time, which needed replacing. Not wanting to produce too much of an anachronism, I took a section shape I worked out in the 70s for a Cherub, and grafted it into what seemed like a reasonable rocker curve. Its flat along the centreline, transforming to a U section forward.
What's interesting about it is that best ultra light conditions performance seems to be with boat bolt upright, which is a bit different!

Side tanks on slides, when capsized underwater tank pushes out, or even lee tank extends whilst sailing

I see your internal layout issues here, as your folding wings will hinder normal control line placement. I think you have to have a triangular tunnel behind the king post, curved to meet the shape of your winglets when inboard with the control lines running out aft of this tunnel, and then splitting to your decks or single lines on swinging cleats. The winglets will lie higher up against the tunnel than you show in your drawing. Does that make sense? Nice idea BTW Jim.

Control lines is an issue. I usually have a bracket in the middle of the boat, but that would totally stuff up my slide across layout.

I kinda wonder about running the purchases forward along the centreline of the low deck, then back, maybe to cleats each side of daggerboard. Expensive in blocks, but there'd be room for a lot of throw, and maybe it could be all cascade to gain a couple of blocks back.

Maybe something like this...
