He did get a mention. To be fair though Barry Bucknell was a household name back in the 60s which most non sailing people of a certain age would be familiar with.

I thought it was a good bit of TV and showed the sport in a great light.

Well done Dougal!

Why the Nat 12s? Guess it is dinghy sailing footage that the BBC researchers found easily.

As far as the average non sailing One Show viewer goes I think it made little difference.

Taken in the context of the One Show I still think it was a good article and Dougal's enthusiasm for his subject shone through clearly.

Was pretty good for a TV snippet, which are normally cringeworthy. Not sure about the premis, though, as while the Mirror is a fantastic boat, it was building on the success of many boats before it, from the GP14 onwards. More very well thought out evolution than revolution.

A nice bit of coverage for sailing,  and reminder how the sport had captured the imagination of the mass media and general public.

Staggering the number of boats that were being built in that era,  the challenge is how sailing can re-capture some of that magic.

Tricky job these days. I wonder how much effect the seemingly global desire to chuck bombs and bullets around has. I'm fairly convinced that it has an influence on the publics choices.

That aside, It was a nice piece of coverage.

Back then sailing encompassed a sense of adventure accessible to all, well not entirely all, but those sufficiently educated and employed, no different from today really except...

Now what is on offer is totally sanitised, corporate, schooled, criminal record checked and made safe..

So where exactly is the sense of adventure?
