We appear finally to have cracked the RYA site to stick results in so have now started scoring Raceboard 9.5's in with the sunday morning series today, we've kicked it off at 850, which absolutely trounced the Contenders on a Contender day and a Contender friendly tightish course, so we're going to knock it down to 825 I think it is next stop and see how that holds, us dinghy sailors don't like it up us.
Being new to this it's not giving us any 'confidence' whatever that means but the team assure me in due course it will, interesting as we suspected it's suggesting 1000 for the Icon after the results we did in the spring series. So hopefully the site will accept the Raceboard 95 class and the 37 year wait the windsurf community has had to tolerate before being 'accepted' as a legitimate racing class might be over.. Hopefully.

So now you want your beloved windsurfers to use the dinghy system you despise?
Well, they probably sail more like a Contender than a Moth does, so makes sense to me. |

The windsurf community has had 31 years of acceptance as a legitimate racing class in the world's greatest sporting event, the Olympics Games. Meanwhile, what is probably the most popular discipline in sailing has been kicked out of the Games, and out of its marquee event, AND been kicked out of the Portsmouth Yardstick system. Given that situation, it's very hard to see that boards have been any less 'accepted' than other forms of sailing. By the way, 825 seems to be harsh on those who are sailing boards on inland puddles. EDIT - A Very Good Source tell me the yachts stopped doing enough PY racing to allow the system to work effectively, rather than being kicked out. Mea culpa.

Given how fast the NWA event windsurfer was going in front of me yesterday when i was dropping my sail to come ashore - i'd suggest something like about 1500 is about right

Wel personally I don't, but the Commodore of H&SSC feels it is in the better interest of all of his members and the world at large. Had clubs permitted the use of the system to boards long ago I think there would be a totally different landscape than there is now. Our scratch racing came to an abrupt end due to injury of some of the participants so it's back to using the system and to use it obtain a bandit like everyone else which I personally have now done. |

Well we're not an inland puddle and given the system is dominated by their input it'll just have to stand until some of them start countering our input with their own. He won an hour race in around 14 -18 knots wind by two and a half minutes. I honestly don't think he's ever been beaten by a dinghy but this is the first time we've recorded his time. This is a Raceboard 9.5 you don't race them down there do you? We have a girl racing an 8.5 (which I really think should be the standard) when she stops trolling about in her Snipe we'll see what that delivers.

Well bloody hell, we've only been telling you for 5 years that the only way to stop the system being inland dominated is for sea clubs to get off their backsides and send in some results. Nice you've finally thought of it for yourself.

It's a very clunky system Rupert and frankly people have more to do with their time, the couple who have done this have struggled since the beginning of the season and in this day and age of smart phones, tablets, iwatches (got one for fathers day thought I'd drop that in) buggering about on a steam PC is just a needless irritation. I haven't seen it personally, PC's give me a nervous tic or a nosebleed, so if software doesn't cross platform or work on a web browser I generally give it a drive by, as do most other folk these days.
