Rules question...

I was on starboard  and very close to a windward mark on the inside but ahead of a following boat (different class).  A massive wind shift caused me to crash tack onto port. The alternative would have been a capsize to windward.   The following boat bore off massively partly because of the wind shift and partly to miss my back end and in doing so, went the wrong side of the mark. 

I did two turns for the infringement but I think the boat I infringed just carried on and didn't go back and round the mark properly.  

So, I'm pretty sure you have to sail the course in spite of some idiot forcing you the wrong side of a mark.

Is that right?
