Im intrigued to note positioning of control buttons on gills new regatta race timer , where the buttons on top of Dial , perhaps im an ole dino and just got used to buttons being on the bottom or sides so that when pressing you dont obscure the dial , important in ,synchronising and seeing if timer have started on press,
To my aged mind , looking at the new watch you would have to practically invert your hand to avoid obscuring the dial , even when fixed onto something else ( as this design allows ) , or wear it upside down and learn to read upssy doon and back to front . Hope my regatta master hangs on for longer , dont think i can retrain . Am i missing something ( in the watch ! Here ) ?

I used to use a timex ironman which had the buttons on the face as I found the casio with the buttons on side got pressed on every tack when crewing a 505.
Cant use it anymore as the numbers are to small for my eyes! I now have a fasttime SW3 which for the cost is brilliant. |

I have one of the ronstan watches
![]() I have absolutely NO idea how to work the thing and im pretty sure I did the bloke thing of binning the instructions. This however is not an issue as unless its shorts and T-Shirt weather i cant get the bloody thing on my wrist!!!! My big yellow watch has lasted for years but the set button is a little 'Iffy' now, i also have a habit of knocking the start/stop button in the prestart melee, which is not helpful (not sure how) I will probably go back to my 1990's favourite of a timex Ironman with an Animal watch strap.

If you had kept it for long enough like mine the buttons stop working so it ain't a problem. 20 quid for ten years use...v good

I like the Optimum watches, but they never survive (in my experience) having the battery changed, or tyhe buttons fall off. It can't be rocket science to make a good product more durable. The Fastime watches look good but seem very expensive. I'd go for it if I had confidence they'd last a long time

I tried one of the ronstans. You have to push the two 'top buttons' together to go into race mode. I found it a bit too big to go on the wrist but with a strap too short to go over the suit. Just preference really.
I have gone back to a big yellow which goes over everything, but is still smaller !! than the new gill ones. The big yellow has been redesigned, the buttons are stiffer, its more waterproof and after a couple of outings I have to say I like it. Certainly beeps loud enough..
I agree with the earlier post that buttons on the side, unless locked or with guards tend to get triggered by moving the wrist around when you have gloves on. |

the Fasttime S3 is £21.50 plus carriage so cheaper than Optimum. They do a sailing watch with gps etc which is over £140 so have another look. Please note I do not work for them. Cheers Gordon |
