Anyone got one? Will GRF do a V3? Will JimC move on to a C#? Will KneeWrecker put a trapeze on a lurid colour Phantom?

Here's mine. Nothing will come of it, but it's warmer than real sailing!

I wish I had that sort of cad capability, I'm drawing mine freehand and working out how to align the various bits to make a tri hull mono, aint easy and as fast as I work out one bit another flash of genius sends me back to the damn drawing board, I'm on a tripod foiling hull design that also works in light airs at the moment great idea until you try and work out the plans for the build frame.

Then how to bend the bloody ply all round the various bits, that's going to be fun.

And the man cave was a bit cold for the first time tonight. BRRR, maybe the Solution is a Solution after all

Thinking I should design and build a toy boat, not a full size one. Might get done then.

RC or not RC, that is the question?

I consulted the Oracle on such matters and was informed I was a 'tool'....

I will of course heed his warning for now, besides at the rate of depreciation on Phantoms, I should get an even newer one in 6 months or so.  But the option is still there come BST/Wednesday nights 2015 if the D-Zero/RS300 boat fund has been spent on a skiing holiday and I've only got a couple of grand to play with.

The other option for 2K is to buy a decentish Laser, put a Rooster 8.1 on it and race with 20 other Lasers, no handicap, but no official series result (only proper Lasers qualify, but the replicas, radials and roosters welcome to boost numbers for individual races).... which then raises the question if I 'need' the D-Zero or RS300 at all.

My winter project is to get my sh*t in one sock, and decide if expensive/new boats are a thing of the past, present or future.

Jim's project is far more interesting........

Hi Peaky

'KISS' looks amazingly like an Icon ... with a few 'extras'.    Well we would like the look of it of course.  What are the rig / sail plan sizes you have in mind .... ?  .. and a trapeze or still a hiker ?

Hi Mike,
Not entirely coincidence of course...

I've drawn it a bit smaller than Icon - 4.25 x 1.83m with about 12m^2 of white sail on a short mast (luff length 5.2m, foot 2.25m and head 0.9m). Relatively long foot on the self tacking jib (more Tasarish than 200). Very modest kite of about 12m^2. Was thinking of ultra clean cockpit with underfloor main sheeting (or off boom), gnav and no thwart. Would like to get some soft materials on the sides where your bum goes - like car dash board stuff. Possibly bean bags for the crew! Kick up foils, with replaceable gasket module.

Hi Peaky

Decription is a bit MG14ish in terms of size .....  I'd go off the boom, nice and KISS and no thwart but maybe an option for one.   For the same reason I'd not go GNAV myself.  You might struggle a bit with that ultra fine bow to pack in a decent sized chute and pole though - Guess the opening  would be behind the forestay ?.  The spinnaker size is about right imo.... so no trapeze option needed at that width ?

Knock up foils .. hell yes.  Seen too much damage to be 'vertical' purist at either end of the boat anymore (I remember your own first IOS 'adventure' with a cassette rudder btw Wink - impressive that you managed to sail back without a rudder really !)  Plus they are a right b****er to constantly clear of weed in light winds .. or in lots of breeze as well for that matter.

'Softie' material.... from memory some of the NS14s in Oz entirely covered the floor with thick pro-grip..... I'd just make detailing recesses in the mouldings so there are less 'edges' to lift.

Nice ideas ... but you could just get an NS14 or Icon hull to play with and save lots of ££££

Mike L.
