I think that a full laser mast is very heavy compared to the supernova or streaker ones, compounded by having to put it up and down all the time to hoist or change a sail.

Possibly the worst (although certain untapered, non-spreadered rigs spring to mind), but are they really the heaviest (for the size of sail, I guess you mean)?

Laser rigs always strike me as quite light to pick up compared to a comparably long Selden mast.  Simple round tubes are pretty good in terms of stiffness to weight ratio compared to extrusions with sail tracks and various fittings.  Sleeve luffs are not to be sniffed at either, if you can stand the inconvenience; but I digress (as ever)...

All very well, if no-one wants to protest him at the club that's one thing, but if its going back into the system as a Rooster 8.1 in PY returns we should all be bothered. If its recorded as a one off non-class dinghy then that's fine I suppose.

Exactly.

If I still had my 8.1 I would drop Rooster a line but it is immaterial to me now.

Do you mean the carbon insert?

If he is using a full carbon mast then he is out of class even for the 8.1 which is designed to be put on the std ali spars using wither a glass extender piece of a longer ali bottom section.

There is a carbon top section that is pretty much ready for market but it has the same issue as the new sail.....

You could but it would be far more believable!....

Look like it will go to court in the US mid March 2015 as long as LPE do not stall any more over discovery.
