Any great ideas on turning the diminishing numbers of race participants and boats in a sailing/racing club? This is for both dinghy class and handy-cap fleets.

Good PR on the open cirusits for the classes that race at your club and en enthusiastic fleet captain are good.

This is what works for us at Hunts. While our fleet captains are not always at the front of their repsective fleets they are great organisers and really enthusiastic about what they sail.

Once that bit is cracked it is spreading the word and being friendly to new members (which always helps). Above all don't try to ram and particular class down anyone's throat.

We also hold an open from which we gain several members each year. Overall the membership level is stable and the races on the whole are well attended.

Just MHO of course.......

I take it you mean your club in the USA. Need some details on your club
and what boats and what sailors first.

I to would like to know where, what, age range of current members, demograghics of local area.

I take it this is a "sailing" not a "drinking/sailing" or "drinking" club.

If you list classes not known outside your area, links or pics would be great.

Another way is to arrange some kind of training for the families that have joined cause they think that if they own a boat they will look and sound rich when talking to their friends.

At our club we are currently trying to do this and we are hoping for some good results
