Full respect for giving it a go, it looks and sounds as if the Merlin inlands were proper windy.
But that being the case are you insured if the mast snaps, or the kite rips, or the capsized boat gets holed as it is thrown on the rocks?

Yes, dinghy insurance is comprehensive with full racing risk*. I have never had an issue claiming when i have broken something in a strong wind.
I also know of a guy who got a new hull (Laser, new for old cover) because his hull was written off at a windy regatta. * Well mine is at least
