So my drysuit zip went yesterday. A 2.5 year old crewsaver cirrus drysuit. I'm not a toughened racer - I just pootle about one a week maximum as a recreational sailor and I am not impressed. I look after my kit and I don't do anything very high risk or stress.
I am considering getting dry trousers only to wear with a spray top. I don't go out if it is really hairy weather and I rarely capsize (yes maybe I am not trying hard enough!) so I don't swim around the lake much. Mostly I just don't like getting wet, especially wet feet. But I don't want to spend as much as I would on a new drysuit! Buying top quality top price stuff is not my budget. Any recommendations / experiences? |

If you can't get a new zip put on, I think Trident used to do dry-suit trousers aimed at Oppie parents.
I used to have a Musto two piece, and they sold the 2 halves separately. I don't know if they still do them.

Crewsaver's are not the best, mine always ended up with soggy arms - though the zip was OK. A two piece will always leak if you hit the water hard or spend long in it.
Good quality drysuit (I have a Neil Pryde now, which is excellent) or just a good wetsuit - they're pretty warm these days.

Can't fault my Typhoon or the Hammond before it- Gul before that on the otherhand, m'eh... Cheap Drysuits are false economy IMHO.

"Cheap Drysuits are false economy" = True. The typhoon max B looks identical to the Neil Pryde one ... but neither are cheap.
Kayakers wear dry trousers; try a kayak store like: http://www.thepaddlingcompany.com/ |

I wouldn't fancy capsizing wearing (floodable) dry trousers - I thought gumboots were already a no-no, but this is in a different league... Even a drysuit with a tear can be dangerous.
How about dry socks and a thick wetsuit instead? You get crash protection thrown in then. Edited by Medway Maniac - 07 May 14 at 8:36pm |

Mt expensive typhoon suit leaks quite badly and I haven't had it that long. That being said, it is like work wear for me. Contemplating a Sandiline, but not sure about the colours.
The Trident launching dry trousers do say they are not suitable if there's a chance you might fall right in. It would be like wearing waders.

My 1992 Piel, non-breathable drysuit is still going strong, and provided I wear fleece between it and me I don't get wet - vapour just collects as condensation on the drysuit itself. But then I am a cold mortal, and I switch to a wetsuit once we're into April or May, so sweating isn't really an issue.
But I hear this 'leaking drysuits' thing a lot, and they are always breathable ones. Maybe the breathable technology is not all it's cracked up to be? (and do they really breathe anyway once they are water-soaked and the pores are clogged up with salt?
