How long (time wise) does your club make an individual race last for the leading boat and do you have a cut off for finishing for the slow boats.

It depends a little on how far in front the leader is getting, especially on a long course where being lapped isn't happening. About 50 minutes is fairly normal, with the hope that everyone finishes roughly by the hour. However, in a cold weather drifter race, this could be down to 35 minutes so that the people in the slow boats don't freeze.

One hour and they'll grand prix finish slower boats and work out average lap time.

During that time, the windsurfers will run four short beat reach reach beat run finish races starting and finishing at the lee end.

So this year I'm hoping to get the single handers to join the windsurfers on Tuesday Nights to see if they like the idea of four quick fire races, the problem obviously will be the timing, Windsurfers don't race to handicaps so we might just ditch the Handicap system it's crap anyway and race scratch single hander uni rigs.

About 50-60 minutes, average lap means you can, hopefully, have a short gap between races, particularly important when its chilly

An hour race in the morning, usually around 4 laps of a moderately complex course
Two twenty minute races at lunchtime, usually a couple of laps of a quadrilateral or the like.

Open meetings two ~ 40min each side of lunch, quadrilaterals or W/L depending on class preference.

No time limits, but we'll often average lap, maybe hit the shorten in front of the leading Laser or Solo depending on gaps, and certainly grand prix finish anyone who's been lapped.

About 45-50 mins, all our pursuit races (2, once every four weeks) are finished at 50 mins, and on pursuit days, we do two 25-30 min races back to back in the morning, instead of the usual :)

Over the winter, 2 x 30 minute (max) races back-to-back in the morning and then the same in the afternoon.

Proper racing round bouts in the harbour - 800 often ashore in 45-50 minutes.  Corrected fulcrum across the fleet 50-55 minutes.  But when conditions are good it can be a marathon, 90 minutes, even 2 hours!

We usually aim for between 40-50 minutes for the leading boat and finish everyone after that and use average laps if required for lapped boats.
