Exactly right Daniel, if it's done well, vacuum bagging is great! If it's not..

You might find this article interesting, http://www.epoxycraft.com/strong-and-light-the-evolution-of-the-infusion-revolution/ David J talks a lot about infusion and vag bag techniques.

It would be good to have an umbrella F1 class to cover the Laser/Torch, RaSer, Nemesis, etc. The rules would need some effort to keep the boats affordable, simple, robust and 'sensible', but it would be great to see.
And there should also be a F2 for the 100/Astom/D1, F3 for your Pyschon/400, F4 for the Alto/L4k/Iso.

Okay- what with the Echo, the Nemesis and the Icon all having a healthy nod towards the NS14... can't you / us / someone start to think about a Cat Class Formula Style Box rule system for class compliance?

If there was a really good fun event for you all would it matter that some are singlehanded, some may have moded a kite and trap....?  The openness seems to work in the F16s... plenty of folks sailing older boats without the feeling of an arms race?

Oh, and yes... don't give a sh*t about the PY, or the implications of it locally.  It's racing off scratch and if local clubs want to rate each variant differently, fine... whatever.... we don't care?

The RS Elite worked more or less on that basis, as I understand it- and the RS involvement came from those involved approaching them to build and market it?

I am tempted by a crowdfunding approach, whereby you only start production once a set number of deposits are taken. If you don't get enough takers, you return the deposits. That way the risk of buying into a dud class is removed - which is probably the single biggest fear when buying a new design.

I think historically, many of the local one-designs around the coast started on this basis.
You get a group of people at a club to agree on a design and a set of class rules.

I don't see why that won't work as well today as in the 1930's.
It puts the class in the driving seat, even owning the design rights in many cases.
I suppose taken to extremes it might actually work against the fleet spreading from its local base?

I don't think it was a problem hitting 100 deposits.... but then they had brand capital, a relatively unique offering (the D-One suffered heinous FX at the time) and an existing UK circuit to hook in to, so the only 'issue' was for club sailors looking for fleets.... some of us changed clubs to make that happen and start building micro fleets.

Hasn't that worked for getting the Vortex back in production at White Formula?  It's also essentially what RS did with the 100 when all paid £300 full refundable deposits...
