How silly is it to put the taper in the middle of the sheet so i can just loop it through the eye like i do with a non tapered sheet and have the knot in the boat. Seems silly to taper sheets then put heavy knots out there.
I guess cutting away the outer core from the tapered part is a pain.

Doesn't sound silly at all, provided you can get the outer off without damaging the core.

An expert may know better...

On the 18 we have maffioli swiftcord with a loop made by pulling the core out and whipping it together, not cutting away any outer, to tie the sheets together in the boat we have a taper leaving about 150mm on one end, and the same then whipped into a loop the other to make a small join when tied

We tie the kite onto the loop but if you made it longer than ours you could then do the pass through method i think you are after

I'm going to use my 'if you need lightweight sheets then the kite isn't big enough' theory here! LOL
Needs to sail more...
