GJW Direct SailFest - WPNSA's Olympic Legacy Event

£65 for a singlehander entry, £75 for a doublehander - 6 handicap races over 2 days followed by the pursuit on Monday.  Details here: http://sailfest.sailracer.org/eventsites/default_s.asp?eventid=157188

Coaching day, Friday 23rd August, to be led by Peter Aitken (former sail- and spar-maker, world champion sailor and hugely experienced coach) and supported by Raymarine, aiming to get the best out of the venue and their Micro Compass.  All boats tracked with full video debrief in conjunction with the tracking data.  £37 for the day per boat.

Loads going on in addition to the racing:

Sat afternoon: Will Mackaness Charity Duathlon - windsurfing and mountain bikes
Sat evening: Hog Roast at WPNSA with DJ afterwards
Sun afternoon: Interclub Watersports Challenge
Sun evening: Meal at RYA Portland House

Raymarine will also be sponsoring the Long Distance Race on Monday with a Micro Compass for first place and other prizes within the fleet

And for the whole 4 days there will be sporting taster activities (proper lessons) at a fraction of the usual cost for the rest of the family, or friends who may want to join you for a day or more.  Activities range from 90 minutes to 3 hours with a max charge of just £22. Windsurfing, paddlesports, rock-climbing, mountain-biking and sailing to choose from.  (My 10 year old went from never-sailed to able to sail a windsurfer round by herself after two of these sessions at a previous event - fantastic value!)

The dates are now set for the 2014 edition over the same bank holiday weekend - 23rd to 25th August 2014.

The Byte Nationals are part of this, sounds a bit odd to me. Anyone know anything about it?

It looks like there asre lots of add on activities as well as the sailing Tick.  Looks good, but won't be a patch on the cVRDA National Rally, same weekend at Hunts!
the same, but different...

Quite right Nessa. If you're not in a Byte, you should be at Hunts.

I'd rather go to the National Watersports Festival the following weekend at Hayling:

Yes the Byte Nationals are part of SailFest,  the Phantoms are also making it a bit of a bash and Fireballs a Golden Dolphin event -  so  a multi class event,  with handicap starts for others.

Lots of other activities for both those competing and other visitors,  plus shoreside displays and workshops including Richard Woof on boat prep etc -  free access to the Olympic sailing venue, something for everyone

Look forward to seeing everyone over the August Bank Holiday -  celebrate the Olympics

I hope there are lots of flags and logos.......I do like flags and logos. Will there be hot dogs? I like them as well. As you can see I am getting into the party spirit. Whilst the 'boy' sails I shall walk about approaching girls and small men to convert them to the cause whilst wearing my Murray's Mum 'T' shirt.
