You don't have to be Finn size to sail a D One, that's the whole point of the wings. And yes, they are two very different boats. The phantom will alwYs be better RTC, the D one is amazing on open water with courses that make optimum use of an asy.

agree Rich and yes mine is up for sale but that is because I can't sail it at the moment and therefore I don't want to lose any more money on depreciation. Saves me money on insurance and boat park fees too. There is no way that I would fit into a D-Zero so I don't think that the phantom sailors are much of a danger to this class

Sorry - my mistake !
However - the comments still apply really - far more Phantom activity in this country than D One. So its still a very healthy class. Also the D One and Phantom don't compete - only one has a kite ? |

Slightly provocative comment ? - the Phantom class is still healthy, has a great established circuit (s) and lots of new boats around this year. They have a totally different target I'd have thought - Laser size sailors for the D0 against Finn sized sailors for the Phantom. The classes should not have to compete ? Many of the Apollo Duck Phantoms are older boats. If anyone is changing classes due to the reduced handicap they are probably few and far between. Just thoughts. |

....and thats why fairly recent ones are dropping down into the price range of a new D Zero and become an option. Makes for a lot of boat for not much cash (relatively speaking), and as been said a million times, if its class racing, PY is of no interest.

Anyone thought about insurance for their new toy ? No surprise, but the usual companies don't have it listed in their drop-down lists yet, and with no claim history/cost to go on, or however insurers work out the risks for each class, can anyone suggest how to go about insuring the D Zero ?

I heard it's like that lottery scene from 'Deep Impact'.... all except the world isn't about to end from blazing infernos and phenomenal tsunamis if you have to wait a while.
Besides, is anyone still sailing Phantoms? I thought the D-One had mopped up the last of them...
