There was was a move, back in the late 60s, to combine the Swordfish and Alb as a 'National 15'. It, obviously, didn't happen but it might have ended up with something rather special.

There was a National Swordfish.  If you read the link you'll see the Albacore was actually an evolution of the Swordfish design.

There is an element of that, however Weston has had a meteoric rise to becoming the 2nd biggest i14 club nationally, and the last 2 national champs have hailed from Netley and Castle Cove respectively, so there is some spread away from the traditional heartland alright!

The Swordfish started life as the "YRA 15 foot one design", much as the Firefly started life is the "YRA 12 foot one design". When Fairey's started making them they named them after their aircraft, so National Firefly and National Swordfish came into being.
