Looks like to me the guy has beared away with the main still fully powered up , not jabbed the boat off the wind and the rig has accelerated faster than the starboard hull can keep up. Hence the reason for using a lot of rudder when you bear away from being powered up!

very good explanation i have thought that too, but the reason why i was asking this was that i thought cats canīt do such actions. i know i could offence someone here but iīve never sailed a multihull before and thought they are very friendly too handle... seems not!

Big sail areas on small light hulls can always lead to pitch-poles. Cats are just as vulnerable to it as skiffs, especially when the crew forgets to crack the jib off during the bear away. The A-Class shown doesn't have a jib, but judging by the picture, it looks like the rig was wanting to go faster than the hull could keep up with.

A-Classes are very light boats, seen one with all rigging on it that you could lift just like a bike.

A Class.......  75kg fully rigged.  Before they set the minimum weight rule they had them down to as little as 60kg.

I've posted this here before but here is a shot of Bundy and Forbes during a photo shoot on Sydney Harbour in 2000.  One of our local TV stations had footage of this and used it ot the end of their weekly sport shows

They are definitely worth trying.  I'm not an experienced cat sailor but I've managed to capsize a Hobbie 16 in 3 different ways.  1. conventional overpowered leeward capsize.  2. pitch pole (several times) and 3. backwards - when tacking over a wave (not a common experience).  By the way the reaching speeds in a force 5 have to be experienced to be believed - even on such a low tech device as a Hobbie.
