NEWS.....

Toby Peacock ('Peaky') is taking the Icon Demonstrator to Rock SC over the Easter weekend.  Anyone wanting to see the boat there etc get in contact with him direct.   It should be easier to do more trials / demos soon as additional boats become available after Easter.... (and I get our hull back !!)

1) Burghfield Sailing Club has an 'Open Day' event this Saturday (14th).  We will have an Icon there 'on show' and anyone can just turn up and if we can fit you in ... have a go !    If anyone wants to make contact in advance please feel free to do so ....

2 ) We are working up a programme for the Summer to get Icons along to several sailing weeks - but many do overlap in August.  However I have just noticed that 'Bourne End Week' is much earlier and I'm quite tempted to take one along for a bit of 'civilised' river sailing as a bit of a prelude.  Only problem - no crew available. So I'm seeking a scratch crew for the 5 days (Saturday to Wednesday), could be anyone but preferably somebody used to 2-sail crewing ideally with 'dangly pole' experience but the rudiments are very easily picked up we are finding.  Is there anyone out there ?

This would be a big contrast to the 'open water' weeks we will be doing later but the boat is proving pretty flexible in practice ... and maybe more so than the helm as it is many years since river sailing featured ... too many !

The forecast is looking great for tomorrow. A perfect opportunity for those who are curious to give the Icon a go!

We'll be there too in the X1 in the afternoon (race at LCSC in morning!).

Here is a 30 second clip for you:

I like to take pictures of sailing, but I'd rather be sailing!

We don't usually 'do' singlehanded stuff in Icon  but  this was the day when a journalist was testing both X1 and Icon at Burghfield - the X1 was first up in the lighter breeze so I just got on the water on my own for 45 minutes.   It later picked up when there were two of us and Icon went up the gears ....  rapidly !

But single-handed can be done but would be a tad easier if we had the option jib cleats on it - not on this hull (003) in the vid.  Currently I simply set up the jib and sit on the sheet and concentrate on the main, particularly upwind.  The 'dangle' system is so practical and easy to use it makes the offwind legs interesting as well.

Anyway ... there is a bit of reasonable breeze around today and if anyone wants to try Icon head to Burghfield this afternoon (Saturday).

Cheers - Mike L. (aka Cirrus Raceboats)

We've been a bit quiet for a while  .... Peaky has had something called a 'day-job' he apparently has to devote much time to currently and I've been bashing out Blazes prior to their Nationals in a couple of weeks  but  the mist is now clearing for both of us shortly.

All I've managed with Icon in the last few weeks is a few Wednesday evenings and the odd Sunday at Burghfield.   It was always fast but we are really learning the 'go' settings now and, yes I know I'm biased,  but it is fantastic and a real treat to sail.

Peaky has just taken a first production hull away with a box full of fittings ... he likes to do it himself but should be strutting around like ... well as appropriate  ... at Chew very soon.   We are then going to try and visit a number of clubs and regatta days together over the summer.

So the current question is ...where (apart from Burghfield and Chew) would some of you like us to turn up ?  Have you got a suitable regatta day or a one-off race we could enter ?  either pm me or let us know here ...

Mike L.

Medway regatta July 2/3          www.wilsoniansc.org.uk

I reckon there would be plenty of interest from people there and a great place to show it's paces in a slightly different environment

I would say bring it to Hunts but our only 1 day event coming up is in mid-August and (like most other shallow inland clubs) are likely to be suffering from the dreaded weed by then :-(...

Do you have to be a member of a Kent club to do the Man of Kent?

I'm just starting to fit out my hull, shouldn't take too long but I've already spent hours picking the rope colours! Will post photo's when there is something to show.
