No data for the boat in the system and a handicap set deliberately harsh, it is the same for all new boats apparently...

Once there is data in the system then I would not be at all surprised if it is a fast as a laser. More modern hull shape, half the weight, carbon rig and a better sail.

Its a quick little boat the Aero 5.  As Jeffers says the GL handicapping for new classes is somewhat harsh.

besides who gives flying f*ck about the full rig Laser.... they didn't even start at the same time as the Aero 5, so fairly meaningless comparison.

That's a great report on front page - nice to see the young man in the 5 getting the recognition and encouragement he deserves.

Yeah, there I go and get a 9 and it turns out the 5 is the faster boat  LOL

That said its going to be very interesting as the little rubber guys in the 5's can scare the 7's and 9's sailed buy us more mature types!

Just heard yesterday that I might have a boat for the weekend.

Unfortunately just looked at the forecast..... no place for a new Dacron first sail

I've only got 1 experience of the GL "harsh" handicaps for new classes, and that was last winter in the Alto. The Class recommended number was 925, but I found during the year that Wilsonian used 915 as they felt it was right for their water. At the 1st SJ event last winter we were given 910, which I thought was a bit harsh (didn't stop me enjoying myself though ).
Fast-forward 12 months and the RYA have set an EN of 912, based on hard data.... so maybe, just maybe these GL dudes know their onions!

No they don't, they are stupid and self serving, then what they present becomes self fulfilling and prophetic with other folk pointing at them and going oh if they think it is so, then it must be..

It would be far better to replace them with machines.

The EN will be based on results, spat out from a computer, so they have been replaced by a machine. Whether the machine is coming up with a reasonable number, given that there can't have been a huge number of returns from a wide spectrum of sailors, is another question.

I have been told that the PYS are still keen to get any additional data from both the Aero and Zero classes as they know both are being actively raced so if your club is not sending your results in then get on their case!
