I just point people to the class association site now.

good job some those chatting and responsible for some of the banter put the leg work in to create and manage that website then.

Different platforms for different purposes- personally I don't see the point of a Facebook group that's drier than a nuns snatch, anymore than a class association website loaded with trivial banter- that's what FB and forums are for, maybe some here are forgetting that when complaining about current popular content?

I's a forum supposed to be a sales and promotional channel??? Maybe we're all losing the plot!!

See you've ignored/misrepresented my point as normal. Ah well who cares, it's Christmas.

No - I accept your point, the Facebook group and forums are not a good advert for a class- not many are by the way and frankly I don't believe that's their purpose anyway... Just check out the solo or the Merlin ones - doesn't stop the boats being exceptionally popular and still the benchmark in their respective categories.

If you want to use FB for promotional purposes use a Page, not a Group. If you want a forum to be a marketing channel go back and find some proper budget and pay the host for some advertising.

That's why early adopters of the zero have been quick to chuck a hat into the ring and help get a proper website up -four of us put that together, and Jeffers is taking it forward nicely imho - with proper owner class content, not just advertorial.

Mike, Icon2 in epoxy? Have I missed something?

The Rondar Icon will be different in a number of areas and details will no doubt follow in the next couple of months - just maybe not on this thread though.  We are still involved but it is very much their boat/project now.

Just a builder swap. One builder built in vinylester because labout is cheaper than material.

The current builder is in a different location so it is more economical to use epoxy as it required less labour.

Mike can explain the nitty gritty if required.

More of less right .....  Rondar want a number of changes and epoxy was on the 'required' list.  It is routinely used by them for several classes anyway.  Vinylester is OK but they wanted to switch to epoxy particularly for the N.American Icon variant - details from them when they release the information.

Hulls will have correctors added as needed to bring them up to the standard UK weight for racing.  We already use epoxy with the Blaze and it does mean all boats can be supplied exactly at a consistent minimum weight.   It is totally understandable that purchasers today insist on that assurance.

PS - Future Icon stuff ' as and when' will be found on an Icon thread ..... helps keeps the forum a bit more obvious !

Seems I have missed all the fun ...

In summary seems they have a number of boats with transit damage or not made so well depending on your take on assessment of the facts ...

Anyway; rather than fix a skin split like that with epoxy loaded with micro balloons or plexus ... I would humbly suggest that the correct product would be a bonding paste similar to this:

The aero swarm looked great today - it was a pleasure to sail against them, notably a good talent spectrum - so racing for everyone.

Hopefully to be repeated, with a little more wind from the off next time!

Having not sailed for 6 months because of a shoulder opp, had 3 hours out in an aero yesterday in 12-18knots with a 7 rig. Was great to be sailing again, but great boat, feels almost like windsurfing at times. Four of us out there and a couple of practice starts. Boats spin on a dime and don't stick in irons so starts will be fun! A whole 15m start line and all 4 boats within a couple of inches of each other at the starboard end. They accelerate very quickly so I predict lots of startling action......

Cant wait to get mine in a few weeks time. Smile Smile

Just read a report on the front page from the aerospace at Oxford. I now understand what grf means about the winter handicapswas the aero 5 really sailing off a lower handicap than a full rig laser? New boat or not that seems barmy!
