... and if the course's too big it just becomes a pointless procession as the fast boats 'stretch their legs', which is the same as saying the slow boats get 'shunted out the back'.   The D-Ones with a sub 1000 PY were coming mid-fleet, even on corrected time, and with the greatest respect to anyone driving one, that seemed about right.... hardly 'slow boats'.  (And didn't Dan still win R4 in one, OTW and CT, I can't remember I was too busy enjoying my own little battles somewhere down the pack)

+1. There is all the Great Lake events for serious PY racing. Winning is bad sport at the FOM. Dan didn't know this but can be forgiven because he gave me a go in his wicked Punk. If it had been a serious event I'd have taken the opportunity to fall through his sail.

My point about PYs was that we dont want clubs to bring their PY issues along to the party!

What about Bartley SC - Redders may have some influence there.  It is very central and very friendly.

I agree, Bartley is very friendly, and we manage to sail our 14 there, so it is big enough for faster boats, only just though :)

The main point about room is if you consider boat swaps important. Not much point in trying a Musto skiff on a 40 acre lake where someone new to the boat might get 25 yards out on the wire between when they finish the hoist and when its time to start having a go at the drop.

My finger in the air estimate would be that boat swaps on the more extreme kite free boats probably need 100 acres of water, and boats with kites 150-200 acres.

Honestly i don't give a flying turd for PY ratings or that type of racing, its all about enjoying myself and i don't think unless like Jim says you've got 150 acres to play on you can.  If its going to be a smaller lake i would probably look to have a go in something far more appropriate and manouverable.

There was none of that dangling on wire nonsense, it was a 'Gentlemens' (and Ladies) event, seating room only.
