The 600ff is not a suitable foiling platform as the boat has a trapeze. How many trapeze boats sail at a optimum angle of 10 to 20 degrees of windward heel. I would struggle to sail a Musto like this so why would a foiling trapeze boat be any different. Foiling is set up around hiking boats like the Moth where you can heel to windward and cats where you can sail them flat and sensibly upwind as the foils in either side are specific to that tack.

Plus you can throw the kit on a 200 quid boat and go foiling very cheaply. Will be at the dinghy show too! Wink

apparently it has already been banned at Draycote Water SC.... Foiling Moths are the only permitted foiling boat allowed.

Confused

Eh? Where is the logic in that?

So do they ban other new designs that may impact the Laser fleet too ... like a D-0 for example?

Where did you hear that? Bizarre if they are turning potential fleet members away. I didn't realise they were bursting with members and needing to turn people away! I hope it's not true.

HI Chris,

Oddly enough in the windsurf digest...

I won't cut and paste here, but the wording expressly stated that you will not be allowed the Laser foiling kit.  Email en route...

AIUI- you would NOW need seek permission from the fleet captains and the water manager to bring a boat 'not on the approved list' to the club.

I know you are going to ask, well what's on the approved list then... to which I haven't the foggiest  LOL

Hmm, coming up to membership renewal time as well.... Think that might just have made the decision for me then!

I'm glad they think they've got enough members that they can now start to turn people away.

Bit draconian...to allow 1 foiling boat but not another (IMO).

At Hunts we have a PY limit of 950 and do not allow multihulls. This is purely down to the size of the water though. Anything with a PY slower then 1000 will never really perform to it's PY.
