Fowey harbour might be good for something then Lionel! At least you can get the boat on the water there safely (ferry notwithstanding)

Here's hoping you can start sailing soon

Our race-killer at Frensham is ice - we even lost a race to it the weekend before last (14 April!) We seem to lose at least 3-4 weekends most winters. I get withdrawal symptoms after 2.

For anyone who has not been there, Porthpean is a lovely, friendly club. Top tip: order your pasty for lunch before going afloat

Porthpean is superb, we had a great B14 Nationals there the other year.

not long now until it can be 'weed' instead!

I'm not sure if there was actually a race yesterday evening at Dracyote.  In the main it looked okay- well as okay as heavy gusty yucky wind gets; but there were some nasty 40 knot gusts coming through and frankly I didn't fancy getting caught out, so joined the herd in heading home.

I heard rumours ChrisG mtfu'd and took a B14 out- would love to have seen that fly!

Mind you, halfway up it, that ramp does make GRFs quest for lightness seem, dare I say it, attractive.

But as my RS100 trolley seems to weigh more than the boat, perhaps we should focus on reducing their weight first. Aluminium trolley anyone?

hah, yes, the Porthpean ramp is a killer- though a landrover and a rope makes life easier!

I've seen Aussie B14s on aluminium launching trolleys. I think the issue though is using them as part of a combi trailer- though you should still be able to build something much lighter and as stiff than a steel launching trolley from alumnium and have it pass the appropriate tests

I had an aluminium trolley for my laser which was great, but laughing single handed it floated at the wheels as it was so light so had other issues when the conditions were wrong as you couldn't just leave it in water.

Iain built an all-in-one trolley/roady for the 470 when we sailed one way back. But he did work for Kemp Masts so had access to skilled Aluminium welders.

Bounced about a bit if you towed it without the boat, but was otherwise pretty cool

Half-fill the trolley tyres with water before putting the air in - made my trolley buoyancy neutral Smile

nothing beats the sound of steel scraping up a slipway on an overweight boat.  It's a manly sound - a cacophony of brutal emotion- winners/losers/sportsmanship/fair play all resonating in abundance to the orchestration of the halyards's rhythm, the mylars creasing, the booms crashing and the primeval bass notes from the sailor himself, huffing and puffing as he tears muscle from limb to move into his boat park space.
