Hi All
One thing I have noticed is the distance between mast foot and centreboard seems to me to be unusual in that it is a long way and I wonder how this works. most boats are pretty close. Jim C or others more technical to comment please.
Cheers

Hi Tom
Just sailed the 9 in about f4 at Hayling. I have to say I really enjoyed the boat despite me being 110kg plus, 55, and 6ft 2in but I cannot see me buying one just a little to small.
Very responsive controls worked well but found the kicker in the middle a bit awkward to get at when the elastic for the board is across it.
More load than expected on the main but I have not sailed really since Christmas.
Unfortunately no other boats apart from a couple of moths to see how she was pointing/VMG upwind. Was not brave enough to try the full by the lee downwind bit as sailing a Phantom its not in my toolbox.
Thanks Charlie, Simon and Alex for letting me have a go.
If the Aero is on a holiday beach I would be very happy to sail it for a long time.

...if it's fun, accessible and stays competitively priced AND L*sers keep shooting themselves in the foot, this will be mass-successful and I, for one, hope so

Gordon, I thought all the show boats had controls to the side?

No the kicker is on a central swivel cleat just in front of the dagger board.
Cunningham and outhaul out to the side only.

interesting video from Yachting World... big focus on the light weight attribute, although not stunningly complementary towards it upwind, techniquey to keep in the groove without any weight, waterline length or momentum to flatter average skills.

And I had to laugh at the assumption that the boat weighs less than most launching trolleys.... I'd like to see that qualified, I certainly don't think I've had a 50kg launching trolley... ever.

Also the guy gets to carry it 10 yards down the beach into an onshore wind.  It proves a point to the uninitiated in such matters.... but those of us who've windsurfed with 'big kit' know it sometimes takes two trips...  board, then rig and yes, get kit big enough and the 'carrying bit' is a total arse-ache!

Shame he doesn't have a third hand for the daggerboard too... after all, going back for it would be a right PITA.... something so light, and with a flexy mast, will soon get dinged up when you go back to the high-tide line to pick up the board, leaving the boat and rig bouncing in shoredump or grounding out on shingle.

Bottom line- any assumption that the £300 launching trolley is truly an 'optional' extra might be quite short lived in the pre-delivery hype, rather than the actual owner experience.

You could carry it with the board in?

The all up weight is above safe lifting limits for work, so I think I'd be sticking with a trolley (but not a 45kg one), rather than pinging my back again. Mind, 2 people could carry it right way up very easily indeed.

Hopefully getting a go in early June, thanks to Charlie M. Looking forward to it a lot!

That sail looks starved to death upwind!! Is that why we haven't seen any upwind footage before?

Yeah, cos being able to carry a single hander 10 yards from the trolly into the water (with the board in) is such a PITA!
Sheesh!

Launching trolly? No.
Trailer? Certainly.
