In that shot I can see the windward shroud and spreader through the sail.

G.R.F, I've Pm'd you some stuff about the D-one sail that I'm not sure I can
post here without being slammed for having a bias view.

Yeah could be, I'm going blind staring at it..

Interesting fact about the D1 sail..

They're already hopping mad, I'll keep that to myself for the moment, they
seem to have quietened down a bit..

So sensitive to criticism.

Sensitive to criticism or just to having someone ranting about a product they have never seen? If you'd gone about this thread differently, we could have had an interesting discussion on why masts and sails are made by different people, but the long rants about whether one person or another is so stupid they can't even tie shoelaces means this thread would be better off in the banter section.

Your stated view appears to be that sail makers make a sail, and then think, I wonder what mast this might go on...I can't believe that even someone with as little knowledge of the last 100 years of dinghy development really thinks that, so why ruin what otherwise could have been a reasoned debate with such crap?

People have explained to you in very short words why dinghy sails are different to windsurfing ones, and how in particular the D1 sail is working. Why not take that knowledge and add it to your (possibly) extensive knowledge of windsurfing rigs, rather than just ignoring it and posting the same crap over and over again.

Yes, perhaps we should have a sin bin part of the forum that people (eg in this case GRF) could be sent to for a while...

To be fair, this thread is called 'GRF's Rig School'. It was started as a tongue in cheek thread and so was always going to be biassed in Grumphs favour. If you don't like the works of GRF then don't read the thread! Forums need 'characters' or they are boring. I've quite enjoyed reading some of the info from GRF and Phil and feel I have learned something. Good stuff.

Well said Mr Noyce, my sentiments exactly.  I'm sure you don't click on porn sites and then complain about its content, so if you don't like GRF then don't read his responses and just ignore him!

I for one have enjoyed reading all of the informative postings by Phill and Grumpf.  But i have equally enjoyed the D-one Baiting and biting!

All very interesting from a psychological and scientific point of view but since many of us just club race on small ponds then one sh*t tack takes away all the advantage of bendy tips and vectors (whatever they may be). It also occurs to me that all this nit picking discussion about rig design matters not one iota when you look at nationals results, still the same few saliors win and probably those competitors would win anyway even given slightly "off" equipment. By the way I think GRF is very jolly and I look forward to reading him but in the greater world I am very much more worried about the failing health of my ancient cat Pod.

Can we get off this personal guff now, this is a topic of discussion that has been worn out before.  The point of this thread was to be a vehicle by which GRF, myself and others with a sensible, well constructed opinion could discuss the merits of rig mechanics and fluid dynamics away from threads specific to any particular boat.  I appreciate I have not brilliantly succeeded in keeping this completely scientific myself either, but we are not at the Royal Society.  Granted it was born, somewhat tongue in cheek, out of a particular discussion on the D1, but I had hoped that things would continue along a more practical line.  Perhaps it is time to lock this thread and leave it be - Mark?
