Burghfield SC - BLAZE (+Fire/Halo) Open next weekend.

The season opener usually with a decent social as well... This year in addition to the usual training and racing stuff we have added 4 or 5 boats available for loan - either for one day or two.  Alrerady over 20 pre-entries and lots more locals and visitors expected on the weekend.

Any forumites who would like to try a Blaze, maybe for the second time even, join-in, race, come to the social, just watch, drink beer (or non-alcoholic alternative......  well we are if nothing inclusive).   Want to try a Halo or a Fire rig as well ?  Of course you do ... Contact us or the CA by direct message/email - we can allocate boats, help with accomodation recommendations, even of the camping type etc etc.   We have also ordered ideal conditons yet again.

Hunts visit II

You must have all seen a Halo or two before so this one might amuse a few ...... Well you can't just sit on the shore and watch the demo Halo go off can you ? ... and erm ... in the interests of being even-handed here, the web can also reveal a similar pic of me in an Aero as well .... if you look. Wink

Hi Paul / Hunts SC

Many thanks for the invite, sailing  and hospitality on the weekend....  We both enjoyed the visit and apart from the weather (and the odd strand of weed !) had a good time.

It was obviously not 'Fire' rig weather so you lot inevitably get the 'Halo' treatment on 812 and the regular Blaze sail on Stuarts boat on this occasion.  Perhaps we can do it again next season and get a decent breezy day .... In the meantime maybe we'll see you and other locals at some of the SJ events - We assume you will be at least be at the GGP as well in the D-0 ?  If you want another 'go' in '812' or another boat on the day no problem at all.

Hi Paul

All the boats you mention were officially weighted - most also were again at the later Stone Nationals by the class association just after the Mk3's came along.  Not a single Mk1 or Mk2 boat were found below minimum weight and we only found one of the then 'new' Mk3s underweight at the time (by < 300 grammes which was corrected on the spot).

I owned the first Mk2 (654) myself when they were first produced and can assure you that it was just under 2.5kg above the minimum weight when new).  I have never heard the comments made above prior to your post.  There have never been 'special' builds of Blazes to my knowledge .. and I used to have access to manufacturers records going back before Cirrus were involved.

Today we build ALL Mk3 hulls a couple or so kg underweight.....  They are then officially weighed and correctors added within the hull.  These are routinely bonded to the hull with polysulphide mastic.  This means that the cannot easily be removed or 'forgotten'.  However if a major repair is needed at any time the hull can be rectified and then officially re-weighed.... If necessary the corrector weight can be adjusted to ensure the hull is still maintained at minimum weight.

See you on the weekend ....

Mike L.

PS - Was the person suggesting 'specials' existed perhaps trying to sell a hull to someone at the time ?  Wink

There was quite a discussion at the 2007 Nationals about it amongst many sailor (including the owner at the time who had weighed it).

Then again I was told 654 and 655 were 'special' builds by Topper and were lighter then the hulls that followed. 655 being allegedly light never propelled me to stardom though...... (654 and 655 were the first 2 'X' boats I seem to recall).

For the record then .. If there are any plans to make changes to the Blaze (and Fire / Halo) in the future we'll let you know here first !  ..... of course we will.  Until then .... it is standard  WYSIWYG in terms of production stuff.

Our policy remains to ensure older boats can remain pretty competitive with a decent sail and a bit of tlc against the newer ones.   It works for the exisitng owners and it works commercially for us.   Anything else simply would not be a 'Blaze' or be called a 'Blaze'.

I just figure that if we keep perpetuating these myths; low weight foils, hull, comfy aero-style wings... Then eventually they will happen  Wink and we can all buy in

yes, although some of things we asked for, upfront and for downwind, might not now be on the wish list, although perhaps you have a different view  LOL

Hi Matt

We'll build anything you (and maybe GRF) want if you have deep enough pockets (and put enough of it 'up front') .... but you just might not be able to call it a Blaze or race it as such   !!

Why don't you try buying '693' though  ...
