My camera work is very dodgy and the b*ggers have muted the soundtrack!

Peaky

Was that a F2 when you filmed the video? It looks fairly powered up on the beat at the beginning.

It will be interesting to see how the depowering works as the breeze gets up.

Ah, no. It was much breezier in the morning when I took the video - and with probably 25-30 kg less crew weight. The sail size and power is no problem - Mike even suggested making the main a little bigger but I think the sails are spot on for a mixed/middle weight crew.

That makes sense then. Thanks for that.

Mike, Peaky
It would be interesting to see a photo or video of how it floats when it is on its side with nobody on the centreboard.

Sorry, I don't have any photo's of it capsized. I'd imagine it would be fairly typical. I do know though that the boat us stable enough to pull yourself in over the side without tipping it.

If it was "fairly typical" then I would be disappointed. That would imply that it would float quite high when on its side. I had been hoping that Mike was taking volume out of the side tanks so that it would be easy to get onto the centreboard from the water.
The fact that it is stable enough to pull yourself in without tipping it makes me wonder whether he has achieved this.

I had hoped the Icon was not going to be "typical"  Wink

Okay, let me rephrase that. Its great!
The new boat hasn't been capsized yet - the pulling yourself over the side test was done just to test stability. It is a fairly difficult boat to capsize, being more stable than, say, a 200. IMHO it is more important to design a boat that is comfy, stable and good to sail. I wouldn't want to compromise these too much just to make it good on it's side as I'd rather not be in that position!   capsizes will inevitably occur, but I wouldn't want the boat primarily designed around that scenario.
I'm only guessing, but I suspect the board will be above head height but within reach. I believe Y&Y are testing it today, so maybe they or Mike can confirm?

OK, the capsize thing is just my little hobby horse.

Not a breath of wind here, hope they have more up the M4.

Leading on from the video, how do the angles compare to the MR & N12 we can see there upwind? (Yes I know it's early doors, just wondering about indicative pointing versus those two)

I'm really not too sure. We certainly seemed to point higher than the Blazes if that's any help.
