Are you planning on taking it on tour Mike for demo days?

Yes !  The 'official' launch will be at the Dinghy Show.  Y&Y are aiming to review next week and we will be sailing it intensively from then.  After the show a couple of them will be doing the rounds and this will include 'open days' for sure.  A small number of individuals who have been in touch since the start may get a sneak preview sail before the show.

I had my first try of the new Icon today - thanks Mike for a great sail!.

My main concern was whether the new hull would be as good as the smaller NS hull.  Worry over!  The new hull is excellent - just as fast and smooth to accelerate, but carries a heavier crew and is more stable. It also has a distinctive look that I love.

The rig works really well and there is plenty of room under the boom and around the cockpit.  The jib pole is great, sheet loads are light and the mast and sail look very nicely matched.

I have now convinced myself that I will not go for the optional thwart, although the gentleman who tried it before me thought a thwart was a must.
There was some change to the kicker set up needed, but that's about all and I think that will be done tomorrow.
Will post some photo's and a video later.

That was no gentleman - that was an RS200 crew! They like their thwart for moving from one side of the boat to the other...

I couldn't possibly comment...
The pics I promised will have to wait until this evening.
Mike and I did the afternoon race and the wind was a flukey force 2. We had about 180kg in the boat which is more than ideal, but there was still plenty of room for both of us. It is difficult to compare speed in those conditions, but we deliberately started last and had caught plenty up by the end so that was satisfying.

I will let the powers that be know, if you are around the weekend of our club day then getting people in it might be a good idea. At the moment the 2 handed choice is an Enterprise or a L2K (good when it is windy, not so good otherwise).

I will let you know dates etc.. by email (or a member of our committee might be in touch).

Jeffers

Thanks - very much appreciated ....

BTW .... you really really do not to have a combined crew weight of 180+ kg !!  But it can just about work.  I thought Peaky would like to get some idea of relative speeds /angles with other classes so we followed a fast handicap start away from the line about 90 seconds after the last off cleared it without too much seriousness .... but you know what its like as a racer - you catch a few and suddenly you are after the next couple etc ... Wink
