I'm a huge fan of RS and everything they do but I'm also struggling with the excitement of the Aero????
To me it looks like something you would sell by the bucket load to sailing schools and holiday companies but not be necessarily something you may want to own yourself. Just looks a bit uninspiring. And apart from the reported light weight I can't see how it differentiates itself versus many other single handers out there?
The one thing the D zero has is a very nice unusual look especially in the bow.
However as the Aeros seem to be selling well already obviously it has an appeal to others.
I hope it will be another successful class for Rs and the big plus it has is the overall RS support behind it.

Am I the only one who thinks this??

Yes, you are the only one who thinks this!
Needs to sail more...

Sailed the Aero today and was very impressed. At the dinghy show I was sceptical about some design aspects and aesthetically it didn't sparkle. But it just works, sails really well. Centre main makes gybing a doddle, means less mainsheet than a rear mainsheet and the little rope traveller just seems to work.

It is pretty quick too, in Force 2 the Aero 9 seemed to be roughly the same speed as a Phantom. I assume as the wind builds the plant will be quicker.

I just like the Aero because is light (but seems strongly built), easy to sail and doesn't seem to have any vices.

It was what I saw from the shore. It was down a reach, the aero sailed through the dirty air of a radial and then the Phant. I think it was the Phant with the cool new skinny mast. I didn't see upwind comparison but when I sailed it, it felt quick. Alex from RS thought the PY of the Aero 9 might be around 1030.

So really you can't say it's as fast as a phantom.  You saw it on a reach, as I understand it the phantoms were a leg ahead at the end of the race.  You also didn't see it go upwind against a phantom and finally the man from rs says it should be about 1030 which puts it well off phantom speed py1010.

I'm glad you are happy with your purchase mate, but some perspective eh?

Hi Ruscoe

I don't want some forum sledging. I think you should sail the boat before the you comment about it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised like I was. I didn't realise any Aeros were actually racing when I was there.

Sorry that sounded a bit snappy, didn't mean it too.  Just after more perspective and fact as your post was a little devoid.

See my comment above, apologies if it came across that way.  RS are hardly going to let me have a go.  Apparently they were racing but that's third hand information and they wee no where near the phantoms (from a phantom sailor). Not that it matters.  If this is to be the new laser the. Handicap performance and top end speed are completely irrelevant.

As for forum sledging, perhaps you should of watched longer before you make comments like its as fast as a phantom no? Just a thought save the overall disappointment for everyone
