The classic 14 kite is about 200sq feet, which is about18.5 sqM. Pretty big for an open 14 foot boat with no self draining cocpit!

That's something that some here fail to take into consideration. And for much of the class's history no trapezes either. Maybe some of the skiffy types on here should try sailing a classic I14. I suspect they'd find it a challenge. Edited by SoggyBadger - 08 Oct 12 at 12:50pm |

To capsize was considered poor seamanship so you deserved to retire swamped.

Such a shame the class sold out and became just another me-too skiff. The dinghy world is much poorer for the loss just as the keel-boat world would be poorer if they lost the Star. |

Guys, my intended lift for the weekend has bailed on me and I'm currently carless! Is anyone passing along the M5 (Tewkesbury) and fancy double stacking? I can provide a trailer.

If you read Steaphsons books. Open boats, no self bailers, crew bailing ribbed boats on long courses(legs of several miles) and to top that building his own boat to his own ideas over winter weekends and then towing miles on old pre motorway roads to get to events the other end of the country and looking out for police as werent allowed to tow over 30mph. Great reads if you get the chance.

I'll have to look out for that one. Although I've never sailed 14s, much of my reading in my formative years was books by I14 sailors: Stuart Walker's "The Tactic of Small Boat Racing" and "The Techniques of Small Boat Racing" which contains sections by a number of top 14 helms of the day, edited by Stuart Walker, foreword by Ian Proctor and introduction by Steward Morris and Charles Bourke. |

Hi Thunder Road, Mrs B has just discovered that her previous commitment for Saturday is actually on the Sunday. Was Sue coming down for both days? If so, would she be happy crewing on Sunday instead? Mike B. |
