Back in the days before the bureacracy and endless regulation folks roofracked just about anything three people could lift... I'm sure Entrprises and the like travelled like that, but ultimately trailers are less work.
As long as you could still open the doors you knew the roof wasn't bending too much: beyond that it was a question of driving more slowly round corners and being wary of crosswinds. |

Is that A Class "Delta Lady"? If it is (and it sure looks like it), it won every light air race at my club for years (mid/late eighties?). Fantastic boat, inspired me to be a naval architect! Sorry for the slight off topic detour folks... |

My mate's dad collected his bloodaxe cherub hull from Andy on the roof of a big old mercedes estate if I remember rightly. Looks the complete polar opposite of the A-class on the polo.

You really shouldn't have let him leave the island alive... It just goes to show Why anyone who sails a cat should be put down, it's the humane thing to do. |

Well I certainly car topped a Contender back in the 80s, and a few others did too. I know the Olympic guys used to car top their 470s over onto the continent, save on ferry charges. As Jim says it wasn't unusual to see all sorts on a roof in those days.

It would look less ridiculous if the whole picture was upside down and the polo was on the roof ready to be sailed off the island |

Necessity being the mother of invention I might just be the first person to roofrack a 100 on a Smart. |
