RS marketed the B14 for some time before they introduced the 800. The K6 also started out life as part of the RS family.
One of the key points of difference is that RS don't build their own boats, they sub the manufacture out, while Laser kept production in. That's led to some difficulties for RS in terms of consistency and build quality but they've always been reasonably good at dealing with it and moving on. |

Not from what I've seen but I dont think they've been around long enough to give a definitive answer on longevity. From a decent sample size ive seen one "proper" warranty job.

I saw one a couple of years ago where the skipper had dropped the dagger board and it had pierced the cockpit floor. It’s inevitable that a 30 kg boat will be fragile and need more kid glove treatment.

Can't help but wonder what price L@sers are sold to the five-ring circus at? (In comparison to RRP, or what Mr Average Punter pays.)

Rumour has it that Neil Pryde lost money on the RS:X project overall, whereas you certainly don’t get that vibe from the Laser product... if anything the low cost of production with tooling amortised many times over, plus the relative replacement rate of the low cost consumable parts gives the impression the Laser is a bit of a cash cow. So even if the price is a fraction of the full RRP for a stand alone punter, it’s clearly reasonable sound commercial logic.... otherwise why bother with the sh*t fight in Connecticut?

Certainly NP behave like a supplier making little profit when it comes to RS:X spares supply.
Whether it’s cos they are making no money, or just figure they can get away with it cos of their monopoly, the service is terrible. |

regards 'Aero' if you go on 'Aero' page on RS site their are various comments, plus I have heard rudder mounting issues, stress fractures, deck fittings pulling out.

Isn’t that the same with a lot of newer designs...? I think the only boat I’ve known launch in the last couple of decades the proper side of a professional beta test was the Musto Skiff. All the others have issues for their early adopters.
