Al, did you go for it? I just looked on the website, but I still can't see what you actually get for you money. |

I've not gone for anything yet (no need to rush)- they're still saying they're considering what the viewing area will be (and where?). Utter, decietful, shambles.

They proudly stated on BBC News the other morning that public viewing will be free for 25,000 people from the beach (I assume they mean Weymouth beach).

That'll be good for the race areas within Porltland harbour.... Anyway, decided to send another enquiry. Lets see if I get a sensible response. Place your bets! I'm going with "no":
Evens- they quote the same bit of the same page I've quoted
2:1- any human answer is buried, like last time
100:1- I get a good answer
1000:1- I get a good answer with a value for money option.

Well here's another option, that according to the blurb will give you on the water viewing...
But before anybody gets too excited I have given them a ring and there is still some confusion as to exactly what is on offer, more detail should be available around the end of May it appears, and if your still interested they are quoting a price of £795 per person per day!

So basically if you want an on-the-water view, cough up big style? non-official boats will be kept well away I assume. Lovely. Wonder also if that'll be the only way to access WPNSA?

I'm not entirely sure this will be the case, the guy from Prestige Ticketing couldn't confirm the expensive packages would go ahead, they actually seemed unsure if the sailing was going to be a paying event?? read into that anything you want, as when I pointed out to them that tickets were on sale now for the sailing he said that they had not had anything confirmed to them yet.
I doubt there will be access to the WPNSA as this might pose too much of a security risk, but like most comments on this subject it's a guess due to lack of information.
According to the RYA it does seem possible to take your own boat and watch from that, but at what distance who knows....
Quote from RYA...
Anyone considering taking their boat to Weymouth and Portland to watch the Olympic sailing events should register their interest for berthing/and or anchoring now. Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and the Portland Harbour Authority are encouraging anyone to complete a ‘Expression of Interest’ registration form to enable them to make available as many berth and anchoring points as possible. Although the number and size of berths has not yet been agreed by pre-registering you will be added to the mailing list and notified when details become available. To complete the form online visit http://harbour.weymouth.gov.uk or call 01305 838423 Basically the more you try and find out about this the more confusing it gets...

It does, doesn't it? There was such a big thing made about WPNSA being the first 2012 venue completed- why is it going to be the last venue with spectator arrangements sorted? Edit: I'm not much of a journo, but I might have a crack at writing up something about this farce and see if somewhere like Sailing Anarchy is interested, get the impression "mainstream" UK Press (including Y&Y) are more interested in painting an "everything is wonderful" picture. On a side note. The Weymouth 'Olympic' Relief road opens tomorrow. Aren't we the lucky ones!

So your £50 ticket buys you access to a loo, a big screen TV and a burger bar (subject to planning permission) at Nothe Gardens.
