 ...and then there were two! - my girlfriend found a Lightning and picks it up tomorrow. Does 2 boats qualify as our own fleet???  Now, whilst i'm genuinely excited about the prospect of us sailing in separate boats - but together, if y'know what i mean, what are the top excuses that i can prepare for when she beats me??? - she is a VERY fast learner. Both in same class of boat on the same water? - my encoragement didn't really think that one through too well huh?

glad your girlfriend found a boat. hope its a good one.

i am still looking !

as for sailing in the same class, its fun. my wife an i have sailed lasers against each other for fifteen years and are results are about the same over the years.

shes a better sailer but i am more competitive.

the only time we fell out was when i luffed her all the way across the pond, and we were overtaken by other boats!

as for excuses - retiring with a boat/rig problem works for me.

Yeah, it's an old one (101) but in great nick - new mast, new sail, new combi trailer (it was the one in DSM mag a couple of months ago). First sail in it yesterday & already she proved more than competent  So, here's to many a) Gracious defeats b) 'oh my boat is older' style excuses or c) superb, crushing victories!

Yeah, she's a far more thoughtful sailor and i'm the "brains in a bucket" competitive (but useless) one

She's the only solo-chick sailing at our club so is receiving LOTS of help from the guys as they attempt to increase the 'between-couples' rivalry

Good luck with the search - not many about but a cracking little boat.

good luck with the sailing and thanks for the link. i tried e mailing them last month, and they never got back to me.

i also phoned about 101, but the owner told me it had a bad paint job. this put me off so i never went to see it, when i was in yorkshire.

glad that the boat  is a good one after all.

Not an especially bad paint job...just the combination that raises an eyebrow or two: Lime green deck (even more 'lime' now she's cleaned her up) and a black hull   Actually, out on the water it looks great - i'm (hopefully) planning on a brand-new thwartless one next year......lets just see if that pans out.

Meanwhile, the rivalry at Manor Park begins..... 'Sprite' (m'lady) Vs 'Ginger (moi) ... let battle commence! : "STARBOOOOARD!"

Manor Park is my club - Kings Bromley in Staffordshire. About 7miles north(ish) of Lichfield.

what did you use to clean up the deck and the hull?

because, fingers crossed, i hope to pick up a lightning next weekend.
