Well, since I am sailing a Phantom at the moment we will see very shortly!

It apeals to me because I am c**p at swimming and I don't fancy going down the gym to sail a Moth (I would if I could get some lard off)

The 'concept' is a fun and easy to sail foiler, the boat we had on display is still in development until we have satisfied ourselves we have reached that goal.

Linton has taken the boat back down to Weymouth to test a few items before it comes up here for my 'Lard arse' testing.

I wouldn't want to give my weight away to save the embarasment of the sailors I have beaten in my Scorpion over the last few years but lets just say its more than 90kg and less than 100kg. Linton is around 70kg on a good day so that is the range that the boat is being tested.

ummmmmm sense this is going down the lines of speculating on whether the Tomahawk is faster than xxxxx or not..... kind of pointless.  It's nice to see Chris' point of view that what they're aiming to create is a foiler for the well proportioned types without gills who can't/won't acess moth foiling for lack of physical characteristics or time to practice.... what's wrong with having fun all of a sudden?

I posted this, then read what Chris just said above, honest!

I really think that there is a market for the Tomahawk and I look forward to seeing what the finished article looks like.

Chris, I do get it. My comment was aimed at hum3 who
overheard talk of it being capable of holding off a moth
downwind. My bad, I should have quoted it.

However, I'm yet to be convinced by this foil. But as
the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. I suspect
that when the breeze is up a dingy with a proper planing
hull will be faster than having that thing glued to the
bottom of the board!

Nothing wrong with having fun. But if that's all it is it will be a fad. You could have a lot of fun in an MX-Ray. Don't remember the last time I saw one.....oh yes it was my one... the one I had for having fun in.

This is my very quick sketch of my interpretation of the 'Tomahawk Foil' © principles ( getting a bit Doug Lord with the © )

Granted, it should have been "the proof of the pudding
is in the eating". But it's an abbreviation, let it go!

I liked it - I pictured a folded piece of paper inserted in a pie, ready for the spy to find!

The efficiency of the foil with those steps on the low-pressure surface (which, after all generates 2/3 of the lift) must be much lower than that of the Moth foils. Whether it is sufficiently efficient to be faster than a planing hull will be interesting to find out.

But as others have said, foiling is a special sensation, so anything which makes it available to the masses must be good, fast or not.

I won't be buying one for the Medway, however, any more than I'd buy a keelboat with a projecting bulb keel (like a K6). Weed will destory your speed by half-way through the race...
