We are getting a steady flow of calls to the SailRacer office today, from those keen to go to the Oxford Blue but have missed the deadline.
Oxford have confirmed they cannot fit any more boats, but if anyone has entered but cannot now sail, please let us know so we can re-allocate your place Thanks

Ha ha, you made my day keepers thanks. But I would not be betting against Pete! He is a miles better sailor than I could dream of being. As are several of the other aero fleet whom I know of old. Oh and Dan Holman is alright too. But I have already beaten him in the beard growing stakes. Sadly for me it's not looking like my conditions at all (making excuses) I only seem to do well in very very windy conditions or in very very light drifters. The condition for tomorrow look set to be the 'thinking' sailors race. I'm more of a brute force and ignorance kind of guy.

Forecast gor tomorrow looks epic. Very, very windy indeed. At what point would they say it's too windy? Do they do that with the Bloody Mary? Shall we make it easier for everyone now and just say a 420 won it!?

Abandoned once, in 1991 - I'm sure it will be fine Race director Andrew Craig commented: “It’s a strong wind forecast, but provided the race officer can get on to the start boat, the Bloody Mary will most likely go ahead. Of course, competitors still have to use their own judgement as to whether it is sensible for them to take part, taking into account their own competence and the type of boat they’re sailing.” Edited by sandgrounder - 09 Jan 15 at 8:10am |

Hi Null
the other really under ragged boat is the 2000 so 420s might not have it all there own way, especially if it shifty. Gordon |

A few years ago the BM was very windy! I spectated. The race was won by a Fireball sailed by Chips Howarth and Viv Townend. It was awesome! All the top places were filled by Fireball and 29ers as I remember. It was so bad that Simon Hoskins and ???? then our current 49er Olympians never made the start line. Two of my friends in a 505 crossed the line late then the crew punched a man shaped hole in the main as he fell off the wire. Their race was over but they were classified since they crossed the line. I do not remember the figures but only about one third of the usual finishers did. The wind was blowing onto the clubhouse and to see those Ball' crews standing up and stowing the kite on the biggest chop I ever saw!

I'm sure it will go ahead, but given that forecast I wouldn't be travelling to go if I were registered. It would be chaos - or that's my perception anyway
I still plan to sail tomorrow afternoon at the local club, but if it's just too much or the water gets shut (for dinghies), then I won't have lost a load of time and hassle. Windguru - it's a very powerful tool isn't it? On a personal level it makes decisions far easier, but on a group or community level, it's got to be the biggest irritation going for clubs wanting to run events.

XC Weather has 24mph gusting to 43 at Heathrow at noon tomorrow - so, very top end force 5 to mid force 8 in the gusts. Winguru has 21 knots gusting to 37. Trapeze boat day.
