Quote - There, that's about it, now I'm off to see about putting a kite and a wire on an Icon..
I'd love to do it - but only so I can sail it on my own.(Johnny no mates version) However don't put your mates out the wire Graeme, the boat is so comfy to hike and so easy to sail you'll need someone to talk to while you are winning races or you'll be bored and lonely inboard! Have you brought the boat yet? Too much talking and not enough action I reckon ![]() ![]() |

Just put the phone down and agreed a deal, going up next week to iron out the detail as to how we do it and how big a kite etc etc Here I go again, buying blind never having tried it even. I couldn't go today, No 1 daughter nicked my van to move back to that Lunnon. I don't understand why the reluctance to adopt a wire, even if you just use it as a hiking support, and as I said a while back I don't like having anyone sat between me and the wind, it's like sailing blind, i can't feel a thing. Don't even start me on idle chatter, drinks of water, waving to your mates.. Communication should be just factual & tactical info and abuse at any Merlins that happen to be near. ![]() I guess this means I may have to reluctantly let the Alto go (to a good home) the bread knife is going to go mental when she finds out, I may have to hide it down the lake, she's giving me grief about the Vtwin blocking the yard, hmm I can see some interesting discussions ahead, good job she never reads forums eh? ![]() Edited by iGRF - 01 Nov 13 at 2:48pm |

What garbage ... that is like saying there is no equality in the 100m as Bolt is taller than Powell ... etc ... If the equipment is all the same you have a level playing field.

I wonder sometimes if you lot even realise what you're writing. If Powell were taller than Bolt maybe he'd beat him, as it is Bolt wins because he's taller & faster, how fair is that? |

There is no equality in the 100m. There is no chance of an unfit 5'5" 47 year old running it faster than Bolt. Therefore I want to be able to do it on a bicycle, and still be beaten, but be close enough that I can "see how he is doing it, and therefore learn from him". I think that argument has been used about sailing faster boats in the past...

A straight 100 metres isn't a fair analogy, for that it's probably better to consider the paraplegics racing on equipment to help them run, then them all being forced to use exactly the same length springy things they use regardless of how tall they are or their stride length.

Why would someone who wants class racing buy a boat based on PY banditry? That defies logic- even for a dinghy sailor!

Which is why a tall "well built" person might decide a Phantom suits them better than a Topper. The choice is there, and is the reason we have PY racing everywhere. More fun, though is to go and get together with other people who are sailing the same type of boat, as that way you don't have to worry about who has won - it is the 1st one across the line. A bit like Mo Farrah deciding to take up long distance running, not sprinting, as his body type is suited better to it. After the Olympics, there was a thing in the paper about Farah taking on Bolt over 600m. This struck me as being about as useful as Oppie v's 49er in a handicap race. Possible, but not in the slightest bit meaningful. |

... It is definetely looking like time to stop dancing around the handbags ... and maybe put on the wetsuit and go sailing in whatever lights your particular fire.
Its been said many times in the past but 20 minutes hands-on experience (er .. as with so many of lifes most worthwhile and enjoyable activities ![]() You don't have to try any other coffee than the Starbucks offerings either ... if it hits the mark for you - it really is your choice. This was never going to be a 'winnable' discussion ! We all learn one day that individual choices are not uniform or universal... (and thank Goodness for that!) If you like your Starbucks coffee and drive a Mondeo well fantastic. I have enjoyed both in my time as well but you will still probably not like my favorite 'Alfa'. But what if you would like it ? And you never ever get to try to see if you do ? And you would lose nothing by trying one.... but what next if it is as good as the hype ? ![]() Mike L. (who will be sailing as usual this weekend !) |
