Should probably point out that it was a class led test. There were a couple of pictures in the RS newsletter (I think) last year so I'm not sure where they've got to with it (anyone involved? Be nice to hear how it's going).

I think I can say with a reasonable degree of confidence that at the next opportunity within reasonable trailing and temperature distance (my threshold is 10 degrees these days), not that I've sailed it single handed yet and had I turfed up at the BM or GGP it would have been highly embarrassing the number of things that would have gone wrong, so anywhere with rescue facilities, I'm still not confident that I could right it yet if it did go over for equipment failure reasons for example.

So I'm itching to race it and the D1 would be a good thing to compare against it's almost fast enough to stay on the same leg of the course we'd be on..

On the vareo kite i did all the testing with it rs sent me two kites to try both were very good one was the mutts nuts for reaching but not alot of good for running as the angles were very poor but round the cans would have been great but the kite they have got now after lots of testing is a radial cut more power lower down you could reach higher with it and it ticked all the boxes in that sense but the old kites are much better as you can run lower for w/l racing .But hey i dont have one any more so it does not worry me too much

Sorry, I (and many other people) have had enough of the photos and personal swipes. Please keep this thread on topic.

Mark,

Thanks for clearing it up.

Back to the D-one, boat Bimbling just about complete.  Cunningham mod now done and kite halyard changed to a slightly thicker rope.  Should actually help with hoist and drops as i found the original a little thin.  There is virtually no friction with the D-one kite system, which sometimes catches me out due to my clumsy ham fisted drops.

Interestingly people were talking earlier about the D-one being a big boys boat (hence i guess the pictures)  It seems to be that the boat is workable by a large weight range.  Charlie Chandler is 76kg (i think) he is certainly proving quick, keeping upwind speed with Andy Couch.  There is also a very quick Argentine chap which at 70kg seems to cope fine.  The boat has a very efficient rig, which is easily depowered.  But the hull is comfortable with my current 95kg on board and i certainly never struggle for power.

Ruscoe,

Just reading your post- saying that light guys can be quick in it. Is it possible to organize a test sail for it at some point?

Cheers

Folks,
Just trying to arrange this next few months travelling and Demo/Test sail days.  If anyone is interested in test sailing a D-one at their local club, please PM me your details.
Just in the process of confirming demo day locations in the South East and North Midlands, hopefully in the South later this year.

But looking for some Northern clubs.  if you would like to test sail a D-one or a selection of your friends would like to have a go so we can arrange a Demo day, please let me know.  All i would need you to supply is the location and have a Rib available, if its large open water.

My e-mail is russell_hopkins'at'hotmail.com (replace 'at' with @ - stop the spammers)
or catch me at the dinghy show!!

Cheers guys,

Happy sailing.
