As part of the demo sail on Saturday i must say its a great boat !!! as a member of the club that was used we find the 100s haven't got the performance up wind to get through the "Solent chop" but the D-One defiantly performed and there were a lot of smiles from all helms.

A myriad of reasons, each and everyone of them personal to the bloke who bought it originally.

In my case, it flared up an old knee injury.  I know of others who found it totally unsuitable for restricted waters and round-the-cans sailing and I can empathise with this, but I guess I always knew that would be a compromise I'd need to accept, especially once the kite started getting bigger.... I'd expect the D-One is not really any different in this respect, if anything the kite being a bit bigger still and the PY lower it makes the 'problem' only worse- as amplified by the results at the Bloody Mary- when you can't use the kite, it's not competitive.

Personally I won't be buying another kited singlehander until either a) there's decent local w/l racing or b) I have the time to travel to events again.  Which is a bit of a bugger.... because once you've experienced a deep reach with the kite up in a F3-4, even on something as mediocre as an RS Vareo, unarig dinghy sailing offwind is really never going to it for you again.

Come on Jimbo, you were not even there to draw up that conclusion.  Sure you could only really kite on two legs (probably 1/4 the course), but i suspect this is the same for all kited classes bar probably the fireball.  The reason the reults were frankly mid fleet is that we start in dirty air and sail in dirty air the whole race, sure we are handicaped as having a kite, but then so was probably 50% of the fleet.

You are right of course that the D-one will not sail a 200 or fireball tight kite leg, but you can sail fairly high thanks to its wing arrangement, it is also pdq on a single sail reach (i would say about 300 speed)

I really wouldn't draw any conclusion from one race round all of QM cans with over 300 boats on the water!!   Fairly small hook to hang your hat on!!

from the Bloody Mary thread:

Jimbo, not the handicap mate the course, we are PY'd to allow for a decent kite leg, there was only really one pal,  lots of tight reaching and just under 300 boats a lot of traffic.

sadly, only really getting one decent kiteable leg isn't atypical for the club courses my local duck ponds offer.

That’s right one/two kite legs (I would call gybe mark)  The main issue I would say was the traffic and the filthy wind/water that generates, not sure if you have done B'mary before pal, but draw conclusions from that event at own rick!  As for only one kiteable leg, even Bowmoor usually has two, albeit short.  But then again not sure anyone ever said the D-one or 100 would be great boats for RTC small pond courses (this links nicely into my comments on SN thread) but I enjoy sailing the D-one on any stretch of water... The favorite of which so far has been Thornbury (if you have never sailed there guys it’s a must) Do I care about club results, no chance if I did I would of kept my Solo as I was comfortably in the chocolates there.  There is compromise in all aspects of Dinghy sailing, be it boat to expensive, slow, fast, crap courses etc.etc. etc.  I choose to sail the boat that gives me the biggest smile and scratches my sailing 'Junkie' itch.  Be it on a puddle or on the sea.  For every compromise sail on a small lake there will be a weekend at the Lord Birket 7mile beat 7 mile Run, i just find the compromise sail fun and great practice.  That’s my choice, and by the quoted unconfirmed numbers of 100's RS have sold says there are loads of people in similar boats (scuse the pun) the reason there are so many for sale, maybe because people should 'try before you buy'

No there is more mate, if you add up numbers on all remarketing channels (class website and AD)
Apollo Duck = 5:
148
157
146
117
276

Rs-association Classifieds:
124

So 6 in total but Jimbo is right could be a myriad of reasons why.
