I think he was about a hundred and fifty years too late to have invented that one! |

Yes that is just what I meant but on that boat how was the jib boom held down? The models had a short mast with a gooseneck and kicker. They also had a "horse" making it just like a self tacking jib.....well it had to be a self tacking jib unless a leprechaun was available. Pre radio control. The kicker controlled the leech when the boom was beyond the horse.

The k1 has a carbon Jib boom/Self tacking system. With a Jib Kicker if i remember correctly. The one at our club has an elastic system that pulls the boom out to 90deg on a run. It works well.

My god!!!! That 3.7 looks harder to sail than a MUSTO SKIFF! Men in the 70's were hard, sadly I was just a teenager.

This one from the Favourite Photo's thread now makes more sense (if you look at the picture on the previous page)!

How old are these photos? Six weeks ago you said you would be sailing in six weeks +/- When are you launching? It looks like it is getting cold now. Can you show us some more up to date photos? You really should go with the N12/Albacore/Ent pole system. It also sounds like the jib has a long foot measurement and will really benefit from having a boom so that it does not get too full off wind as if it goes as quick as a 15ft boat should then it will need a flat jib to go with the flat main.
I think that getting the sails right will be crucial to boat speed and why getting some input from the major UK sail lofts rather than getting cheap crap sails from the Far East would make the Class very attractive.

Morning Mr Giraffe,
The photo's were taken ealier this week and are the most up to date ones I have. its not so easy to see, but these are the first photo's of the mould, the earlier photo's were the plug. In terms of progress, its obviously important to spend time getting the tooling just right. The deck has been made and the hull is underway, so it'll probably be mid December before the first boat hits the water.
Good sails will be vital, and sail develop will be as meticulous as the rest of it - there has to date been 3 masts and 3 sets of sails, with input from some of the best sail designers around. Of Cirrus' other classes the Blaze has a North sail of course, whilst the Halo has the choice of North or Hyde. I have no idea whether one has proven faster/better, but it shows that Mike is not wedded to cheap materials and products. Edited by Peaky - 27 Nov 10 at 8:10am |
