I've got girl flue, so I'm feeling harsh.

I have a low tolerance level of silly practise at the best of times, but this does take the biscuit..

And no I'm not going to tell you how or why, just accept I know more about this sort of thing than y'all do and leave it at that.

It's a big mistake calling that boat a Riverboat even if that is it's intended market.

GRF, you complain when people make over old designs, and say you wish that they would design new ones. When they do, you go all negative. Why should I accept that you "know more about" this sort of thing than me or others on the forum? I would say you know almost nothing about sailing inland, what sort of boats do well there, or the type of person who enjoys sailing there.

Whatever one may say about that, I suspect Mile L is pretty close to the money.  Windsurfer marketing didn't do much for the long-term health of that sector.

The windsurfer marketing lead to a pressure for "constant improvements" that were so concentrated on top-end performance that after 30 years of development most boards are now slower in typical conditions than the first Windsurfer was!

You should accept it, because I told you so.. simples.

Ask MB or Russcoe if he'd like to be the owner of a 'Riverboat' even though for the most part he does ride a river..

And Windsurfing? that was over 30 years ago, since then I've marketed more products in more sectors than most of y'all have had hot dinners. One thing we know, how ever good it might be, what it's called can be either a sales benefit or a sales objection for the sales guy to deal with.

Now, if it was "The new X-boat first of a new generation of multi discipline sailboats equally at home on a river or at the coastal estuary, fine tuned to deal with light gusty wind with its optimally tuned high aspect rig and it's performance tuned rocker designed to cope with the difference in water salinity etc etc.."

At least that way some of us might pass it a cursory glance..

But riverboat? Who gives a sh*t, what's that icon? Oh it hasn't got a kite - whatever...

Actually, a boat optimised for light airs is a very good way of beating trapeze boats over a series. They may beat you in the windy stuff, but you'll discard those races and win all the rest easily. It's the all-rounder fast hiking boats that tend to be permanent bridesmaids, beaten by trap boats in a blow and by light-airs specialists at other times (not counting development classes, of course, whose PY's are plain wrong for the latest boats).

g.rf i must agree with you on the name, its a marketing own goal.

but i must also agree with rupert. every time you post about inland sailing it just proves you know nothing about the people, the boats or the clubs.

In answer to your question Graeme, No i wouldn't buy one.  The simple fact is i think it would struggle to beat an Albacore or Solo on our Very narrow river.  As Spinnaker boats really struggle and a  goose winged Jib just seems faster, especially on an Alb with its rig swung forward.

That's my experience at the ponds nearby too... that doesn't necessarily make it 'more fun', just more competitive to go sans kite!

Spinnaker or not this is not going to work on our water.

As GRF correctly points out it's all in the marketing.
