I don't normally agree with him but 14s are great boats in almost everyway, most proberbly one of the best development classes although my only issue with them is price you cannot deny that a fleet of 14s looks fantastic.

Though so does a fleet of national 12s

Big statement... When you look at the results the B1 was only beaten once by a Slug derivative other than Will and Lucy, and was the only boat to take a race off them. I think Will and Lucy had a superior rig, and were certainly better prepared. The boat was competitive on results. With better prep and a better rig who knows... I would hesitate to write off the shape like that. And Andy Paterson proved comprehensively in recent years that its all round performane that wins Champs.

I think that hull shape plays a very small part in a quick cherub. Obviously its got to be in the right ball park but if you look at the contrasting range of designs which have been at the top of the fleet it's by no means an overall factor. I believe that the rig and more importantly the foils are the key to speed. Getting the t-foil working unleashes an amazing amount of speed, and obviously having it set wrong acts like a big sea brake!

The biggest factor is obviously the crew work, and I don't think that the training week before hand went un-rewarded!
