You know what - someone started a PY thread, and no one is talking about PYs on it any more. Start a thread on anything else, and it is all we end up going on about.

Maybe we are all just contrary?

2secs after that, the Cheshire cat ran aground on a sandbank highlighting the need for a centreboard.
In the meanwhile the grin has lessened since he learned he was buying the government the best part of two D zero's in stamp duty, and was quoted the equivalent of another in moving fees. Then the breadknife announced she wants three or four more to cook in, plus another two to change the bathroom then another couple because she doesn't like one of the windows on the new gaff..

... sounds all too familiar.  I noticed a spreadsheet which had the word 'flooring' in one column and my D-Zero budget in the other.

F8ckin' spreadsheets.....

But at least I saved the Estate Agency fee.... why would you pay someone to sell your own house?   Confused

See GL handicaps are out.  nice to see the Blaze has got slower even with the addition of Carbon mast!....Only 17 points slower than the D-Zero as well!

if they genuinely used boat spec to make up a number then whats the calculation?

Everyone knows a new Blaze is a total bandit- it's hardly the same as those sh*tty red ones Topper made all them years back.

AIUI the Great Lakes calculations start off with the same methods as normal PY, but with results primarily solely from their own waters. They then use more general PY data if their own data is insufficient. Finally they vary the numbers to attempt to correct them for the front end of the fleets: a statistically adventurous exercise.

Jim from what i have seen else where it was more of a 'I think we will give them that'  even when statistics were presented.  It doesnt really matter from my point of view, but it does make me laugh that a Blaze with new carbon rig etc. lighter hulls etc. is slower er than the zero!

FYI - we have a carbon mast option and have had for nearly three seasons - the 2014 current national champion sails with .... an ALLOY mast.  In fact this weekend he won the Inlands as well ... still with his ALLOY mast in solid 20-30kn stuff.  The previous years champion won with a Topper supplied POLYESTER 10+ year old hull against the more recent boats all this in large competitive fleets .. and he came second in this most recent Inlands... still in his polyester Topper hull.  The most recent Blaze hull shipped just a couple of weeks ago was supplied with ... yes an ALLOY mast again.  Real facts can be so ... ooo er so bloody awkward sometimes !!

The Blaze CA has gone to considerable lengths (with us at Cirrus) over many seasons to ensure that boats of all ages are pretty competitive ... if they are sorted, have a decent sail and are well maintained.  It is one of the key reasons why the class prospers, used boat prices are buoyant and we have such good attendance at our major events.

You may like to imagine it is a 'bandit'  - well why not prove it, simply borrow one off us and enter a winter Sailjuice event yourself ?  We'll give you advice and you can race against all classes as well as any other Blazes that enter.

We are hardly responsible for the experimental or 'wet finger in the wind' numbers given to other new classes surely ?  It is absolutely nothing to do with us.   If they are 'wrong' as you suggest it will be obvious very quickly .. and if they are right they will be confirmed in a season or so.

I think new classes need better treatment at introduction and am on record here and elsewhere in saying exactly that and have suggested a couple of ideas that might just make life a bit fairer on these newcomers  .. We got hammered with Icon ourselves and don't like things the way they are either at the moment so maybe you are parking your tank on the wrong front lawn !   We'll still be there though ... keyboard 'competitions' are far less enjoyable whatever the handicap !

In the meantime if you have a real point to make, and one you really believe in  why not back up your viewpoint with a bit of 'on the water' proof  ... our offer is a 100% genuine one.

Mike L.

PS - Greame - lets talk, you know what I'm on about ..... Wink

If you're going to fish around in a semi coquettish fashion to try to sell a bloke something, at least spell his name correctly!
