For me its all about the fun factor!! Yes an 18 is THE DADDY of all boats, but I sail a 12 as its just the most fun ive ever had on water! & the I14 really just isnt for me!

As for the speed factor, blatting it downwind in a 12 is just insane! Hanging on by a thread - you cant nok it til youve tried it!  Best run ive had was in No3 rig weather on the solent, first time we ever got the boat fully airbourne, loved it - and scared the S********* outa me as we were heading straight towards a huge wall at the time- drop the kite then mate!!!

This thread is singularly lacking photos recently. Come on boys! You keep saying you've achieved superhuman wonders on the water. Time to show the pics to prove it, hehe...

The 14 will be faster upwind. Not sure about down wind though would be good to see.

You can push the 14 harder down wind as the T foil on the rudder stabilises everything . By stopping pitching and lifting the bow out. In good wind and Solent chop I would bet on the 14 every time.

Flat water down wind and the 12 might get it.

Say the I14 in 20 knots vs a 12 in 20 knots with the no2 rig. Similar upwind rag, but more downhill on the 12. Upwind the new 14's are faster, T-foils, longer water line and more streamlined! But downwind they are sailed flat and hard, you really feel the difference in the boats weights, (12- 45kg, 14 - 74kg). Where you sail the 12 on its ear and very free - mainly as the kite is in control, nothing else!!!

Upwind the 14 feels "like a pig" compared to a 12 which is bouncy, or Aqua which had a T-foil but still light on the touch. The 14 has a very VERY good fleet - so I really do see the appeal, but all my life ive been in search for that ultimate rush. Just look at my sailing histroy and ud get it!

I dont mean to upset any 14 sailors etc, just my opion - all ill say is dont nok it til youve tried it!! Scared my 49er mate in the 12 with the baby rig up!  So its not just a little "dinky toy"!! But I love them!!

No we dont have T-foils, personally very upset! But then it wouldnt suit my boat, but it would suit the new breed of 12's comming in!!

To be fair Isa, I reckon it'd have been easier to do a jesus on the water than go sailing in the naff all wind we've had recently...

Pfffft... That's because you don't sail in the right place. Last weekend in Lancing was light, OK, but Elodie got to sail the RS200 with a friend. You need light winds at times...

As for grown-up speeds, come and see us this Sunday: force 5 westerly should bring us interesting waves!

Deep joy !!!!    Indigestion and boredom.  Think that's what happened to me last time I was there.  Oh and "interesting" conversation with Scientologists in a coffee bar................  Mind you, you can escape over the border, though some would say out of the frying pan and into the fire...... only joking BnS ..... perish the thought

So glad I am not the only one to be stuck 1000 miles from home and any possibility of sailing

I'd think that dry white wine would go better with molten cheese - it cuts through the fat better and stops the cheese turning into a huge lump in your stomach and killing you. I seem to recall cold beer and fondue is the worst possible combination, though.
