Is it actually inverted? Difficult to tell from that angle. It looks as if they are pretty shy, so it could well just be side bend.

And aren't they sailing the boat gloriously flat. Lesson for everyone there (except 12footer sailors, who march to a different drummer)

Just looks like sidebend to me.

Downwind is is very easy to get the boat that flat, upwind is a different story :(

thats got to be a photoshop, no mast can take THAT much abuse surely???

plus something in that sail shape just doesnt look right, the leech doesnt look tight enough. also, looking at the sea state it cant be windy enough for that as they dont look to be going that fast and it doesnt look particularly windy

but respect is due to whoever photoshop'ed it , kept me puzzled for a few minutes

Not a photoshop. There is a photo sequence taken by Ian Barker if I recall of this mast breaking...

i guess they must have missed a vital part during rigging then.

im not surprised the mast broke. but when you watch the top masts of 18ft skiffs when they launch the kite in breeze, they almost flop about. im surprised they dont break more often. hats off to the people who build the masts.
